Dues payments to the Home Builders Association of Jackson (HBAJ) are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. However, dues payments may be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expense, subject to exclusion for lobbying activity. Because a portion of your state dues will be used for political purposes, you may deduct all but $38.84 (38.84%) of your $100 state dues and $35.64 (18%) of your $198 NAHB dues as a business expense for income tax purposes. $10 of the state dues will go to the Builders Mean Business campaign to support our Political Action Committee. If a member is opposed to the dues going to the Build PAC, please indicate this on the dues statement, and the $10 will go in to the general fund of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi (HBAM).
